In the book wonder, what does this sentence mean? "Countless babies who’ll never be born, like mine."

The sentence "countless babies who"ll never be born,like mine" is referring to the kid that it's about. Augie has Treacher Collins Syndrome wich onlt happpend in 1 in 50,000 new borns a year, thats what the sentance means.
