you would minus 5 by 45 giving you 40 then 40 divided by 35 but that would come out as a decimal 1.14.
is this all of the question?
35x+5=45

35x+5=45
35x+ -5=-5
----------------
35x=  40
-----    -----
35       35
x     = 1.143
