I think they want you to write out Pythagorean’s theorem since it’s a right triangle and the formula is c^2=a^+b^2. So the first box would be 8 (so the c) and 5 would be the next box (so the a). You can sketch the right triangle and see that the length 8 is the hypotenuse and 5 is one of the lengths.
