x^2 + 0x - 1 = 0

x^2 - 1 = 0

This is a difference of two squares which factors into the product of a sum and a difference with the pattern: a^2 - b^2 = (a + b)(a - b).

(x + 1)(x - 1) = 0

x + 1= 0  or  x - 1 = 0

x = -1  or  x = 1

Answer: There are two real solutions.
